80mm Double Stack Modular Telescope — The Flagship 80mm
The LS80MT Premium Kit is the finest 80mm solar telescope Lunt makes. It brings together premium FPL53 ED doublet optics, an internal double-stack etalon system with dual independent Doppler True pressure tuners, and Lunt's new-generation etalons — delivering a combined system bandpass of <0.28Å. At this bandpass through 80mm of premium ED optics, the chromosphere reveals a level of detail and contrast that single-stack instruments at any aperture struggle to match.
The objective is where the Premium distinguishes itself from the Standard and Enhanced. The FPL53 ED doublet — with ion-assisted broadband anti-reflection coatings — delivers exceptional color correction and contrast across both solar and night-sky wavelengths. At the H-alpha line, premium optics translate into sharper chromospheric structure, finer filament definition, and the contrast needed to reveal subtle features. At night, remove the solar module and the LS80MT becomes a premium 80mm f/7 ED refractor for lunar, planetary, and deep-sky work of genuine quality. The same FPL53 glass. The same ion-assisted coatings. A complete second telescope.
The internal SFPT double-stack places two independently pressure-tuned etalons in series, each with its own Doppler True tuning knob. This is not a passive system — it rewards deliberate, engaged tuning. Adjust each etalon independently to optimize for prominences, surface filaments, or active region structure. The combined result is a <0.28Å system bandpass verified on Lunt's precision monochromator. At this contrast level, plage boundaries resolve into cellular networks, filaments show complex multi-strand architecture, and prominences reveal internal threading that single-stack instruments render as smooth, featureless arcs.
The B1800 blocking filter provides 18mm of clear aperture for full-frame imaging. The 7.2–21.5mm zoom eyepiece covers the full magnification range in a single twist — from full-disk surveys to maximum-resolution detail without changing glass. Every unit is individually assembled, bench-tested, and individually verified before leaving Tucson.
