80mm Hydrogen-Alpha Solar Telescope — Imaging & Visual
The LS80MT Enhanced Kit is configured for observers ready to take their solar work seriously — whether that means dedicated imaging sessions, extended visual observation, or both. Two upgrades over the Standard define it: the B1800 blocking filter for full-frame imaging capability, and a complete four-eyepiece flat-field set covering every magnification from full-disk surveys to tight active-region detail.
The LS80MT uses the same 80mm f/7 doublet objective and pressure-tuned etalon as the Standard, delivering the same verified <0.45Å bandpass across the full aperture. What changes is what you can do with it. The B1800 blocking filter provides 18mm of clear aperture — sufficient to fully illuminate full-frame imaging sensors without vignetting. Combined with the ZWO EAF-compatible dual-speed focuser, this is a system built for motorized focus control and dedicated solar imaging workflows. The four-eyepiece flat-field set — 8mm (70x), 12mm (47x), 16mm (35x), and 19mm (29x) — covers the complete range of useful magnifications at 80mm aperture. All share consistent 60° apparent fields and etalon-grade 0.1% AR coatings for clean, ghost-free views at every power.
For observers comparing the LS80MT Enhanced to the LS100 Standard at the same $3,595 price point, the choice is genuinely interesting. The LS100 Standard offers more aperture with a single eyepiece and B1200 filter. The LS80MT Enhanced offers a complete imaging and visual setup at 80mm. The right choice depends on whether aperture or operational completeness is the priority — and both represent outstanding value for the specification.
Like all Lunt 80mm systems, the Enhanced is double-stack ready. Add a DS module at any time to bring combined system bandpass to <0.28Å. The LS80MT Enhanced is also modular — remove the solar module for night-sky observation with the doublet objective.
