50mm Dedicated H-Alpha Solar Telescope — Observer's Package
The LS50THa Enhanced Kit is for the observer who has spent time at the eyepiece and knows what they want: better mechanical precision at focus and the magnification range to explore every solar feature properly. Two upgrades define it — a CNC rack-and-pinion focuser with integrated brake, and a three-eyepiece flat-field set covering 22x through 44x.
The 1.25" Lunt R&P focuser is a meaningful upgrade from the standard helical design. CNC-machined aluminum and brass components, an integrated brake with variable drag that eliminates focus drift, and 6–8 lb load capacity for cameras and filter wheels when imaging is on the agenda. The difference is immediately apparent: smoother travel, positive lock, and the confidence that your focus point stays exactly where you set it through an entire observing session. Once experienced, the R&P makes the helical focuser feel like a compromise.
The three flat-field eyepieces cover the complete range of useful magnifications at 50mm aperture. The 8mm (44x) resolves the finest detail that 50mm and good seeing will allow — active region structure, fine filament threading, prominence knots and flow patterns. The 12mm (29x) is the all-purpose solar eyepiece: enough magnification for serious surface work with enough field to maintain context. The 16mm (22x) provides full-disk views ideal for prominence surveys and monitoring the broad evolution of activity across the entire hemisphere. All three share 60° apparent fields and etalon-grade 0.1% AR coatings.
The same 50mm f/7 optical system, the same Doppler True pressure-tuned etalon, the same verified <0.45Å bandpass. The B600 blocking filter upgrades the aperture from 4mm to 6mm for wider field illumination. And like all Lunt 50mm systems, the Enhanced is fully double-stack capable — add the LS50C at any time for <0.28Å combined bandpass.
